@Bad Drivers Of The NorCal Area That's only when you're in actual stop and go traffic. Not just a road that's heavily populated. I'd wager a guess that its actually more dangerous to lane split than to ride in your lane, but either way is very dangerous in fairly congested areas

In the UK, my bike looked like a police bike, Beemer, flourescent band and DLR. Most of the time people noticed it but not always. The main problem is drivers seeing a space and changing lanes without even thinking to look in the mirror. It got worse the further from London I was because drivers weren't used to there being bikes nipping between the lanes. The speed differential needs to be low enough to react to knobs.

I used to do it in California but I would always tuck in behind a police bike. Traffic paid more attention with a cop around.

Meat Grinder i’ve driven Highway 55 in Idaho hundreds of times and have been out of the car clearing rocks off the road with groups of people a number of times. It’s very unnerving not knowing if more rocks are coming down while you’re standing there😬

Nickolay WAG oh hate when people do that!!! Last week some Camry just merged into me but thank goodness I was able to avoid him by nearly an inch, he didn’t even look at all let alone use mirrors or signal, thats why you must be aware at all times on the road.

I had a 'near-miss' 10yrs ago when I was driving a council-bus & side-swiped a Prius parked in a clearway after changing lanes from behind a pantech. Wasn't expecting it to be there as it was after 3pm, swerved back into lane, but not quite quick enough!

That clip is in the UK. Legal below a certain speed. He was definitly not below it. Car driver had very little chance of knowing he was there. Lane splitting works fine in very slow moving traffic. 99% of people will see you there at low speed, but judging a fast moving bike on 3 or 4 lanes of motorway is difficult.

This is why you should also be real careful if the sun is behind you - oncoming drivers cannot see a thing, including you. If you're in shade, switch your lights on otherwise all they see is shadow. It's debatable whether it helps or not if you're in the open (the lights can make your car 'disappear' like Yehudi lights).

Even with tinted visor, It's difficult to see, you still get blinded, just less than a normal visor.

They do, but even with sunglasses and a tinted visor you can still be blinded by the sun when it's just above the horizon.

Splitting traffic, AKA Filtering is illegal in the U.S. For good reason, unless you like being run over on a Bike.
